Two of IJM Rwanda's staff stop by IJM HQ to talk about work going on in that region
IJM Headquarters was fortunate enough to have two of our IJM Rwanda staff members in the office today to share some of their experiences working in the field. Eugene Manzi serves as an attorney and legal consultant, and Liz McEwen recently returned to the US after serving a one-year internship as the Executive Assistant to IJM Rwanda’s Field Office Director.
“To see clients who are extremely scared, and what it means to see them gain confidence again and smile when we stand next to them in court as an advocate – that is encouraging.” – E. Manzi
“As a result of the genocide, there is a strong sense of justice in the country. People want justice.” – L. McEwen
If they could say one thing to IJM supporters who make the work possible:
“The fact that IJM Rwanda has the resources it needs is unique for organizations in Rwanda. If I need to make a phone call, the phone is there. If I need to make copies, the paper is there. We don’t have to worry about these things and we can focus on the work.” – E. Manzi
How can we be praying for the work in Rwanda:
“Please pray for cases of sexual violence, particularly of orphans and children. As far as I know, There is not a process to deal with these types of cases in the system. I didn’t know of the level of abuse going on until I came to IJM. The problem is guess and IJM Rwanda needs to grow in capacity in order to meet this need.” – E. Manzi
“My prayer is that the culture and hearts of Rwanda will change, that the abused will have courage to speak up, that victims will not be afraid to demand justice.” – L. McEwen
